 Global Nov 2

November 2-8th is career week in Canada - http://www.jobbank.gc.ca/Intro_en.aspx - The Canadian gov't has the Job Bank - a data base of job postings with descriptions - lots of job search tips and tricks and well as resume building help.

You can set yourself up to receive e-mail notification when a job that fits the description of the type your looking for becomes available.
There are links to information about jobs in the oil fields, the RCMP, the Public Service and more. There's even information on how to gain valuable experience as an INTERN.

It also provides links to internet resources: http://www.jobbank.gc.ca/Related_en.aspx

One of the links is for BC - http://www.bcjobs.ca/ a great place to start. Put in a key word and then you can search by category and region.

In BC, adults you can also check out http://workinfonet.bc.ca/ and younger job seekers can just add http://workinfonet.bc.ca/youth/

Whether you're just starting out or looking for a career change there's a lot of great information.

Under Websites they've got lots of great links to things like:

  • Where to look online for job postings
  • Where to look online for different career paths - find out what type of career you might want - find out what type of jobs are out there.

Now - one of the things I like to do on this part of the show is showcase new and interesting companies - http://jiibe.com/ JIIBE is a perfect example.
Jiibe is a user-powered online service that helps people make better decisions when thinking about jobs. The site is designed to help users understand what sort of workplace they'd most enjoy - and then it points them to companies that match that profile based on the real-life experiences of other members. Imagine if one of your friends told you how much they enjoyed working for a particular company - you'd be much more inclined to put in an application there - than with a company you've never heard anything about.

The user interface is fun and easy to use - and it's always interesting to think about what things make you happy in life - everybody would love to love their job - Jiibe hopes to help people do just that. Check it out but be prepared to take some time to answer all the questions.

And if you're a company that's looking for a better way to find the best employees - you could check out www.standoutjobs.com - It helps your company quickly create a centralized hub for recruitment communication and management?
